MAANG stands for Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google. It is the informal rename of FAANG after Facebook became Meta in October 2021, a stock-market label rather than an official category. In India's job-prep usage it often means big-tech product companies and sometimes adds Microsoft. On 4 November 2026 Netflix listed no engineering jobs in India, while Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft all did.

MAANG full form and where it came from
FANG was coined by Jim Cramer in 2013 for Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google, and Apple was added in 2017 to make FAANG. When Facebook renamed itself Meta in October 2021, Fortune and Reuters reported that the most popular suggestion was MAANG, with the F replaced by M.

These are investor labels, not hiring categories. In Indian interview-prep use MAANG usually means large product-based tech companies, and Microsoft is often added informally. We found no official source for that usage, so treat it as common usage.

Freshers should note that Amazon runs a university SDE track and Microsoft lists internships and an early-career programme, while Meta, Apple and Netflix postings in India lean toward experienced hires.
What each company says it tests
- Amazon: programming, data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, databases, distributed computing, operating systems and its Leadership Principles; system design from SDE II.
- Microsoft: problem solving, design, coding and testing, with arrays, strings, queues, linked lists, trees, hash maps and graphs, and big-O explanations.
- Meta: writing code, solving algorithms or a case study, and, in many interviews, using a built-in AI assistant. Its Bangalore postings prefer the ability to bring AI tools into workflows.
- Google: software development, data structures and algorithms, and design from the Senior level. Its candidate guide says not to use AI during the interview, although its early-career posting asks for experience with AI productivity tools.
- Apple: in the Hyderabad posting, Java and Spring, distributed systems, cloud and hands-on use of AI for development.
- Netflix: modern languages, scalable services and strong written communication, at senior titles.
Hiring context in 2026
Big-tech hiring moved in 2026. Amazon confirmed roughly 16,000 corporate job cuts on 28 January 2026, and Bloomberg, via Outlook Business, reported in April that Meta planned to cut about 10% of its workforce and that Microsoft offered voluntary buyouts to about 7% of its US employees. These are reported figures, so check current news before planning around them. Many strong engineers are also hired by Flipkart, Atlassian, Walmart Global Tech, Swiggy and Uber, whose postings we read.
