Forward deployed engineer jobs in India, demand and who is hiring
Forward deployed engineer jobs in India: Indeed reported postings up nearly 19-fold from June 2025 to June 2026; Databricks, DevRev and Cursor list roles.
Forward deployed engineer jobs in India are growing fast on Indeed's measure, though a rise in postings is not a count of jobs. Indeed reported, as relayed by IANS on 14 October 2026, that FDE postings in India rose nearly 19-fold between June 2025 and June 2026. On 30 October 2026, company careers pages listed FDE-titled India roles at Databricks, Cursor, DevRev, HackerRank and MongoDB, and none at OpenAI, Anthropic or Palantir.
How fast have forward deployed engineer postings grown in India?
Indeed's India report, as covered by IANS on 14 October 2026, gives four readings. Postings were nearly 19-fold higher between June 2025 and June 2026, up 1,807% year on year in June 2026, nearly 16 times higher year on year in July and more than six times higher in August. The report said growth accelerated from March 2026.
Growth rates do not show volume, so the base may be small. A rise to nearly 19 times a low number can still be a modest number of openings. The reading to take from it is direction and speed, not volume.
Other sources measure other things. Bloomberry, working from about 1,000 postings supplied by Revealera and mostly from the United States, found a 1,165% year-over-year rise in postings titled "forward deployed engineer" for January to October 2025 against the same months of 2024. Salesforce's newsroom, on 18 March 2026, quoted an Indeed and Financial Times analysis that put the rise at 800% from January to September 2025. Paraform reported 350% on its own platform between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026.
The figures differ because the data sources, title matches and periods differ, and none of them should be stacked on another.
For context on the wider market, Naukri's JobSpeak for September 2026 reported AI and ML roles up 20% year on year while overall white-collar hiring grew 2%, and the earlier explainer on the 2026 AI job market in India covers the backdrop. FDE roles are part of that AI hiring story.
Which companies list forward deployed engineer roles in India right now?
The table lists company careers pages as on 30 October 2026, with the FDE-titled and FDE-family India roles by employer and the experience bar each posting lists. It will date quickly, since postings open and close daily.
| Employer | Title and location | Experience bar | Posting date |

Databricks stands out for scale. Its careers page listed 905 open roles on 30 October 2026, 112 of them with "Forward Deployed" or "FDE" in the title, including five in India. DevRev lists several FDE-family titles at once, across engineer, architect and strategist versions, and Cursor's India role asks FDEs to embed with customer engineering teams and ship production-grade Cursor workflows.
Do OpenAI, Anthropic and Palantir hire forward deployed engineers in India?
Not under the FDE title, going by their careers pages on 30 October 2026. OpenAI listed 813 open roles, 32 of them with "Forward Deployed" or "FDE" in the title, in cities from San Francisco and London to Singapore and Abu Dhabi, and none in India. Anthropic listed 673 roles, 7 with the title, in London, Paris, Munich, New York, San Francisco and Seattle. Palantir listed 302 postings across 26 locations, 73 with "Forward Deployed" in the title, and none in India.
What the labs list in India are neighbouring titles. OpenAI has Applied AI Architect roles in Delhi and Bangalore and a Partner AI Deployment Engineer role for AWS in Bangalore. Anthropic has Applied AI Architect roles in Mumbai and Bangalore. These are not the same job. Anthropic's Bangalore Applied AI Architect posting, updated 9 October 2026, describes a pre-sales architect who guides large enterprises across India and Asia Pacific from technical discovery to deployment, and asks for 10+ years in technical customer-facing roles. Its London FDE posting asks for 4+ years.
The wider lesson is that the title is a weak guide. Indian AI companies use their own names for deployment-led work. Sarvam AI's Deployment Strategist, posted 11 August 2026, owns enterprise deployments end to end for large banks, insurers, digital natives and government departments, from proof of concept to production. ElevenLabs lists a Deployment Strategist Lead for India. Naukri's AI at Work report, summarised on 16 July 2026, said recruiters increasingly search for AI Solution Architect, AI Automation Engineer and Agent Builder profiles.
Which cities, sectors and company types are behind the postings?
PTI's version of the Indeed report, carried by People Matters on 15 October 2026, says FDE roles are listed in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai and remote locations. The postings come from technology companies, consulting firms, startups and specialised AI businesses, and focus on enterprise AI, data engineering, workflow automation, infrastructure and healthcare.
The employer table above lines up with that. Bengaluru carries Databricks, Cursor, HackerRank and Sarvam AI. The Delhi region carries DevRev, MongoDB and Cursor. Mumbai and Chennai appear through DevRev and Cursor, and Databricks and ElevenLabs list remote India roles.
A wider measure helps place these cities. In foundit's 2025 data for all AI postings (published January 2026), not FDE postings alone, Bengaluru held 26%, Delhi-NCR 18%, Hyderabad 12% and Pune 8%. That is a reminder that Pune and Hyderabad matter for AI hiring in general even where the FDE-titled postings are concentrated elsewhere.
Company type matters too. Bloomberry's data, mostly from the United States, found 58% of FDE roles at companies with 11 to 200 employees, which suggests the role clusters in small AI companies. That is a US-weighted finding and may not hold in India, where large platform companies such as Databricks and MongoDB are also in the list.
What does the demand look like outside India?
Outside India the postings are more numerous, and the pay lines are in dollars and pounds. Palantir's careers page lists FDE roles across 26 locations, including Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul and Sydney, and includes new-graduate and internship tracks in New York, London, Chicago, Seoul and Paris. OpenAI's 32 FDE-titled roles are in cities including San Francisco, New York, Seattle, London, Paris, Munich, Zurich, Madrid, Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Abu Dhabi.
Pay figures are market data for the roles in question, not outcomes for any candidate. OpenAI's San Francisco FDE posting of 11 September 2026 lists $185K to $300K plus equity and asks for 5+ years. Anthropic's London FDE posting, updated 14 September 2026, lists an annual salary of GBP 225,000 to GBP 255,000 and asks for 4+ years. Bloomberry found a median advertised salary of $173,816 among postings that disclosed ranges, with equity mentioned in 70% of postings.
The India figure is in rupees and is a separate market measure from the dollar and pound ranges. Indeed's India report said average base pay of approximately Rs 12 lakh a year can be expected for FDE roles in India, within a base-pay range of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. These ranges come from posted salaries and indicate the middle of the market, not a target.
What do the India postings ask for, and how should an engineer read them?
Most ask for several years. DevRev's Delhi NCR posting wants 5+ years in software development, systems integration or platform engineering. Databricks' Senior FDE role in Bengaluru wants 6+ years in data engineering, AI and data platforms, plus two or more of AWS, Azure and GCP, Apache Spark and CI/CD. MongoDB's Gurugram role wants 5+ years of backend engineering. Cursor states no minimum, but asks for strong Python and TypeScript or JavaScript and experience owning AI-native workflows in production.
Skills overlap even where the titles differ. Indeed's India report, relayed by IANS on 14 October 2026, lists Python or Java, data engineering, machine learning, generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agents, cloud technologies, APIs, integrations and full-stack development. The skills that earn more in this AI market tend to be the ones that connect models to a company's systems: agents, retrieval, APIs and cloud deployment, with evidence of having run something in production.
Related Indian applied-AI roles show a lower floor. Sarvam's Agent Engineer posting of 20 August 2026 asks for 3+ years and says that having shipped and run something real users depended on matters more than years. The posting also expects the engineer to sit with a customer's engineering team. A wider spread of skills is covered in the post on forward deployed engineer skills.
Three points follow from the postings. Growth rates do not show volume, so how many India postings carry the FDE title is open. The experience bars cluster at 4 to 6+ years, so a developer with one or two years is usually below the bar. And the same work appears under other titles, so the search should be wider than the acronym.
The practical route is to build evidence of what these postings ask for, which is ownership of work that ran in production. Cursor and Sarvam both ask for it. The role and its week are described in the post on what a forward deployed engineer does.
Where does a structured programme fit?
A taught route is the Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) Cohort. It is a Leap by Masai programme for engineers with hands-on technical experience, run as an in-person start, an online build phase and an in-person hackathon for qualifying participants, covering production Python, APIs, cloud deployment, LLMs, retrieval, agents, security and client engagement. Its eligibility reads: engineers with at least 1 year of hands-on technical experience and comfort writing code.
Frequently asked questions
How many forward deployed engineer jobs are there in India?
No published count exists. Indeed's India report, relayed by IANS on 14 October 2026, gives growth rates, not totals. On 30 October 2026, company careers pages listed FDE-titled India roles at Databricks, Cursor, DevRev, HackerRank and MongoDB.
Which Indian cities hire forward deployed engineers?
Bengaluru leads in the postings listed. PTI's version of the Indeed report, carried by People Matters on 15 October 2026, lists Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai and remote locations. On 30 October 2026, Gurugram, Noida and Delhi NCR also appear through MongoDB and DevRev.
Is forward deployed engineer a good career in 2026?
The demand data is encouraging, but the role is demanding and experience-gated. Postings in India grew nearly 19-fold in the year to June 2026 on Indeed's measure, from a base that may be small. Most roles ask for 4 to 6+ years, involve customer contact, and carry travel that DevRev puts at up to 80%.
Are there forward deployed engineer jobs for freshers in India?
Very few. None of the India postings listed above is a fresher role, and Palantir's new-graduate FDE tracks are in New York, London, Chicago, Seoul and Paris, not India. Cursor states no minimum experience, but asks for production ownership of AI workflows. Most freshers need a first role in software or solutions engineering.
How much do forward deployed engineers earn in India?
Indeed's India report, via IANS on 14 October 2026, puts average base pay at approximately Rs 12 lakh a year, in a range of Rs 9 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. That is market data from posted salaries, not an outcome for any course or candidate. Dollar and pound ranges at AI labs abroad are separate market measures and need 4 to 5+ years.
