Most people ask two questions about a new degree before anything else: what will I actually study, and will it matter to an employer four years from now?

For the IIT Jodhpur BS in Management and Technology, those two questions have the same answer. The curriculum isn't a business degree with a couple of AI electives bolted on, and it isn't a coding bootcamp wearing a management label. It's a single, sequenced 141-credit curriculum, spread across 47 courses and 8 semesters, where business fundamentals, applied AI, Big Data, and Industry 4.0 aren't separate tracks they're taught to work together, the way they actually have to work together inside a real company.

The design principle behind the curriculum

Before getting into the year-wise breakdown, it's worth understanding the logic IIT Jodhpur's School of Management and Entrepreneurship built this around.

As Prof. Avinash Kumar Agarwal, Director of IIT Jodhpur, puts it, education has historically treated technology and management as parallel tracks each rigorous on its own, but rarely in conversation with the other. That worked when business decisions and technical decisions were made by different people in different rooms. It doesn't work anymore, because AI has collapsed that separation. A pricing decision now has a machine learning model behind it. A supply chain decision now runs through cloud infrastructure. A marketing decision is now, in large part, a data decision.

So the BS in Management and Technology curriculum is structured around a single premise: business fundamentals and applied technology should be taught as one connected system, with the technical depth increasing every year, right alongside the strategic and managerial depth. That's the thread that runs through every one of the 47 courses.


Year 1: Foundations of Business and Technology (36 credits)

The first year is deliberately built to be accessible to a student from any stream science, commerce, or arts while still laying real technical and analytical groundwork.

Notice what's already happening here. Alongside accounting and marketing fundamentals, students are taking Foundations of Computing, Database Management Systems, and Algorithmic Thinking in Business in year one. This isn't a business student learns to code add-on, it's the degree signalling, from semester one, that technical fluency is a core competency, not an elective.

By the end of Year 1, students exit-eligible with a Certificate in Business Fundamentals if they choose to the first of the programme's NEP 2020-aligned exit points.


Year 2: Core Business & Technology Skills (36 credits)

Year 2 is where the AI thread starts to thicken.

Machine Learning in Business and AI Applications in Business sit right next to Cost Accounting and Consumer Behaviour in Marketing in the same year which is the point. Students aren't learning machine learning as an abstract technical subject; they're learning it as something that directly informs a marketing or finance decision they're studying in the same semester. By year two, a student on this degree is no longer just business-literate they're starting to think at the intersection the whole programme is named for.

Completing Year 2 makes students eligible to exit with a Diploma in Management and Technology (72 credits).


Year 3: Applied management skills where AI, big data & industry converge (36 credits)

This is, structurally, the most important year in the curriculum, and it's the one prospective students should read most closely.

By Year 3, students are working directly with Generative and Agentic AI in Business not as a survey course, but as an applied, business-context subject, alongside Big Data and Cloud Computing and Industry 4.0. These three courses, taken together in a single year, are what genuinely separate this curriculum from a standard BBA or a conventional B.Com plus electives structure. Very few undergraduate programmes in India, in either engineering or commerce, currently teach generative AI, cloud-scale data systems, and Industry 4.0 as core, non optional coursework at this stage.

This is also where Competition and Strategy, Business Research and Analysis, and Digital Enterprise Management round out the picture so the technical depth is always paired with the strategic reasoning needed to actually use it inside an organisation.

Completing Year 3 makes students eligible for a full Bachelor of Science (3 Years) in Management & Technology 108 credits, one of the multiple recognised exit points NEP 2020 makes possible.


Year 4: Strategic leadership & advanced business management (33 credits)

The final year shifts toward leadership, governance, and the kind of forward-looking coursework that prepares students for senior, cross-functional roles.

Human-AI Collaboration at Work and Technology Forecasting and Assessment are the two courses worth pausing on here. They're not generic technology courses they're specifically about how a leader manages a workforce, a process, or a strategy where AI is already embedded, and how to anticipate where the technology is heading before it disrupts the business. Paired with Corporate Governance, International Business, and Supply Chain Management, Year 4 is built to produce someone who can operate in a boardroom conversation and a systems conversation without needing a translator for either.

Completing all four years brings the full Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Management & Technology 141 credits, along with IIT Jodhpur alumni status, an alumni card and email ID, and eligibility for the on-campus convocation ceremony.

The Big Data, AI, and Industry 4.0 coursework in Years 3 and 4 isn't incidental; it lines up closely with where entry-level hiring is actually growing. According to figures published on the programme's official page, roles this curriculum feeds into are seeing meaningful growth: Product Management Associate roles are seeing roughly 87% year-on-year growth, Business Analyst roles are projected to grow around 34% by 2030, and Operations & Supply Chain Analyst roles are projected to grow around 17% by 2034 with companies like Deloitte, EY, KPMG, Amazon, Flipkart, TCS, and Infosys among those actively hiring for these profiles.

Admission process and Batch 2 dates

Demand for the programme's first batch has been strong enough that IIT Jodhpur and Masai have opened a new intake Batch 2, with applications open now.

Step 1: Apply online. Pay the ₹999 entrance test fee and complete the application form.

Step 2: Clear the qualifier test. The next entrance test is on 13th September 2026, conducted online 60 MCQs across Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, and Numerical Ability, in 120 minutes. No advanced mathematics is required.

Step 3: Attend counselling. Shortlisted candidates go through detailed programme guidance and confirm their seat with a ₹5,000 seat booking amount.

Step 4: Begin the programme. Year 1 fee is ₹1,35,000, with Years 2-4 at ₹1,40,000 each a total of ₹5,60,000 across four years.

The bigger picture

Most degrees teach technology and business as if they'll always be two separate departments.
